Mandalay is a seven bed care home, which opened in July 2010.
The home comprises seven en-suite bedrooms, two bathrooms, lounge, kitchen, dining room and office.
The home has car parking to front and side, with a large, secure garden to the rear. The home has been equipped with appropriate disability access.
Mandalay is staffed over a 24 hour period, with waking night staff. The staff team comprises: Registered Manager, Senior Support Workers, Support Workers and a Maintenance Officer. Staffing levels are robust with four/five staff on duty during the day. This enables us to work closely with individuals, delivering consistent and sometimes complex support plans, providing people with the 1:1 time that they need to feel valued and to ensure that our service offers high levels on individual community participation for the people using our service.
All staff receive a full two-three week induction. This will cover all statutory training (moving and handling, fire safety, food safety, infection control, first aid and basic life support and safeguarding) as well as other training just as important to be able to carry out the support role effectively eg mental capcity act, medication administration, activity and menu planning, person centredness, epilepsy, service user health, record keeping standards and training in understanding and supporting people with behaviours which challenge. All staff are trained in the use of BILD accredited Physical Intervention Training, provided by Securicare. Support staff will be trained to Diploma/Apprenticeships levels 2 and 3 and will enrol on the LDQ course post induction.
Each service user will be supported to carry out daily activities eg college, work placements, community and leisure activities as much as they are possible, to enable them to maximise their potential and lead full, meaningful lives. Our aim at Mandalay is to create a home where poeple feel that they belong, where they have friends and where they feel a valued part of the local community. By creating opportunities for developing daily living skills, by creating a sense of achievement and self esteem and by creating a chance to feel valued, people feel less need to display behaviours which challenge. By offering these opportunities, including daily, community based activity (with staff support if required) and personalised support plans delivered by trained, consistent and committed staff, the people using our services are able to showed marked reductions in behaviours which challenge and improved coping skills.
